Dear Parents of 6th and 7th graders:

It is time to start thinking about the 2009 Washington D.C. trip.    We had an awesome time last summer and were able to see so many fantastic sites.  Traveling with classmates and creating lifelong memories are only part of the fun awaiting us on this program.  Some of the major historical landmarks that we are scheduled to see are the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument and Mount Vernon.  We will also be able to learn about some of the achievements of great Americans by visiting the Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR Memorials.  We will also honor our nation’s heroes at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.  On our 2007 trip, we were also allowed to tour the White House and visit the National Archives.  I am working on having the same spectacular experience planned for our 2009 trip.

We will be traveling with WorldStrides because of their exceptional service and 40 years of experience.  Their safety records and preventative measures ensure learning in a safe and fun environment.  Feel free to visit WorldStrides online at www.worldstrides.com  for extensive information about the company, the destinations and sites, the educational value of the program as well as pictures, videos and virtual tours.

WorldStrides is offering a promotion for our early registrants.  You can get this trip for 2008 prices, even though travel isn’t scheduled until the summer of 2009.   You would just have to put a deposit down to reserve your student’s space by June 01, 2008.  The deposit amount is $79.00.  This program is a once in a lifetime opportunity to discover American history first-hand and to fully grasp the meaning of the lessons taught in the classroom in a fun and interactive way.

I will be having a parent informational meeting on April 9, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Yuma Middle School Computer Lab. If you are considering sending your student to Washington D.C. but have some questions – this is a great way to get some information so that you can make the best decision.  I hope to see you there!
